28 | belgard ® product installation guide | belgard.com | 877-235-4273 SAND SET OVER CONCRETE OVERLAY INSTALLATION (PEDESTRIAN FOOT TRAFFIC) INSTALLATION NOTES: • The required edge restraint system is a low-profile edge restraint with a vertical height of 1½ inches as shown in the drawing. • Precompact the sand bedding course and screed to 1-in thickness with smooth surface. • Mechanically anchor edge restraint into the concrete base. • Insure geotextile is installed directly on top of the concrete to contain the bedding sand. • Insure that pavement is constructed with a 1½ to 2 percent slope and that it is pitched away from any building. • Insure the plastic 4 mm spacers are installed at all corners of the installed pavers. PEDESTRIAN FOOT TRAFFIC ONLY SAND SET OVER CONCRETE OVERLAY INSTALLATION PERIPHERAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM MECHANICALLY FASTENED INTO CONCRETE BASE INSTALLATION NOTES: Follow the detail drawing. The required edge restraint system is a low profile edge restraint with a vertical height of 1 1/2” inches as shown in the drawing. Mechanically anchor edge restraint into the concrete base. Ensure geotextile is installed directly on top of the concrete to contain the bedding sand. Ensure that pavement is constructed with a 2% slope and that it is pitched away from any building or structure. Ensure the plastic 4mm spacers are installed at all corners of the installed pavers. PLANKS When installing porcelain planks (12x48), always lay the patterns of 1/3’s. These shoud not be placed next to each other at 50%. Note: A concrete base with a sound surface and small cracks can be utilized as a base for paving slab construction, but a concrete base with differential settlement or movement is not acceptable. Important: For a professional and chip free cut, Belgard Porcelain pavers should only be cut with a tile saw equipped with a wet cut porcelain blade. Caution: Never compact Belgard Porcelain pavers with a plate compactor. Never install Belgard Porcelain pavers without the required 4mm disc spacers between all units.
